Mentoring for Yoga Teachers
Over the past year and a half I’ve had the opportunity to work with some new teachers. It has been extraordinary to share in their journeys. It's easy to see their gifts so clearly, even when they only see frustration, inadequacy, and roadblocks.
What does mentoring with me look like?
We’ll find your strengths and build on them. We’ll address the areas where you want to improve. If your goal is to teach in a studio, I’ll give you all the pointers I have, and I’ll also encourage you to look outside the box and beyond the studio. I’ll share resources galore.
I’ll ask questions.
-What lights you up?
-Who do you like to teach?
-What’s the easy part of teaching for you?
-What feels like swimming upstream?
-How can you integrate the things that you read/learn/experience into your classes?
We could work on technical things like cuing, sequencing, & theming. We might explore teaching students new to yoga, older students, injured students. Anatomy is always an option if you have questions there, but anatomy is not the focus. This is not about me, and it’s certainly not about making you into a teacher who teaches like I teach.
You have gifts to share. My goal is to help you find them if you aren’t sure what they are and then to assist you in getting them out there for others. Because isn’t that what it’s all about? We tend to worry - am I good enough? But it’s not about us. It’s about the people that we teach.
